Course records were smashed on the ‘Frying Pan’ 10 course as Wrekinsport brought the curtain down on their Denso and Tern Cycles Evening 10 Series; with the final medals in the club programme sorted in Round 14. This is only the third time of running on this already well liked course; and with a late change to it by popular demand. Tomos Hales took the overall win in 20 minutes 59 seconds, smashing 55 seconds off the inaugural record set in Round 11 by Oli Freeman. But the record breaking didn’t end there as Hayley Wells sliced an almost inconceivable 4:49 off Karen Sherriff’s benchmark, also set in Round 11; with a superb 22:45 to take 4^th spot overall in a season of one record after another.

Freeman still holds the best time for the club with Phil Roberts taking the runner-up spot in 21:57 in a rare solo appearance in 2026; a year he has been concentrating on the 2-Up and 4-Up formats principally. This saw off a strong challenge from Newport Junior Ben Bramford-Hale, who finished 3^rd overall with a personal best 22:33, taking first place in the evening’s Road Bike competition. Meanwhile Matt Price finishing 10^th on the night in 24:15 did enough to gain the solo Bronze despite Ian Laverie narrowing the gap after taking 8^th spot with 23:33.

Freeman wanted to ensure the club’s 2-Up Points Championship was his, and did so with partner Ben Wood, not only taking the win in club event; but also in the finale of the Mower Mec 2-Up Series with a late programme reshuffle due to road works; reported on separately. Freeman and Wood stopped the watch on a fine 22:39; with club Chair Dave Moore and partner Dave Seager finishing in 25:45 to capture Silver; consigning Roberts and partner Chris Staples to the Bronze medals.

If there was one contest going down to the wire it was the Road Bike Championship, with Rich Smith; Allan Henderson and Chris Dunn all able to win this Championship, and with all medals in play going into the race. Dunn consigned himself to the Bronze as unavailable to race; but the straight head-to-head between Henderson and Smith saw the former take the honours on the night by two seconds, but the latter do enough to take Gold; meaning Henderson ended his season with Silver.
