This is a relatively flat ride with the only real climb being the one back out of Wem on the return leg.

The route leaves wellington Civic centre and goes out to Walcot via Shawbirch. From Walcot the route follows lanes through Rodington and out to High Ercall. At High Ercall a quick right hand turn off Roden lane takes you through Poynton towards Shawbury.

You pass Morton Corbett castle as you leave Shawbury (Careful of the speed humps) and onto Wem before a few more miles and back lanes see you arrive at Whixall Marina.

Food choice is good, reasonable price and usually very Rapid service. Very biker friendly with bike racks and a track pump if you need it. Due to its location you are likely to meet up with riders from other Shropshire or Cheshire clubs.

Return leg is a little bit more direct and traditional, taking you back through Shawbury and up Walton bank (Barely noticable with a tailwind) through High Ercall and Longden on Tern.

Whixall Marina lies on the Prees Branch of the Llangollen Canal, part of the Shropshire Union Canal.

It is in a peaceful and secure location in the stunning Shropshire countryside.  On our doorstep, is a stunning, natural environment with a wealth of natural resources.

A short ride away will take you to Whixall Moss, part of the world-renowned Fenn’s, Whixall and Bettisfield Mosses National Nature Reserve and the habitat of several rare species.  Created more than 10,000 years ago as the glaciers that covered much of Britain receded, the Marches Mosses are one of the largest raised peat bogs in Britain and one of the rarest habitats on earth and an enormous carbon store, holding more carbon acre for acre than forest does.

Be aware this route uses narrow country lanes that can be covered can get a bit mucky in winter but are always passable with care. Best suited to a summer ride.
