A right of passage ride for a Wrekinsport club ride. A rolling route takes you through Wrockwardine and out around the back of the Wrekin for a descent into Cressage with, if the weather is kind, fantastic views over to the Lawley, Caradoc, the long mynd and your destination.

From cressage the route climbs out and proceeds generally gentily uphill towards Acton Burnell. If you look in the grounds of the college you will see a ruined barn ‘Parliament Barn’, this was the location of the UK’s first parliament.

Once in Church stretton itself you are spoilt for choice for Cafe stops but Berry’s is a particular favourite as bikes can be left securely in their gated courtyard around the back.

Returning re-traces the route down the Old Roman road (the name “Stretton” is derived from the old English words stræt meaning “Roman road” and tun meaning “settlement”). Onwards you descending to cressage, unless you are unlucky you usually have a tailwind back meaning a faster return, just the small matter of ascending through Eaton Constantine before you cruise back into Wellington.

Be aware this route uses narrow country lanes that can be covered can get a bit mucky in winter but are always passable with care. Best suited to a summer ride.
